Police arrested four alleged drug peddlers along with 22 yaba tablets during an anti-narcotics drive in Shariatpur’s Jajira upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as Kadir Fakir, 42, of Baiksha village, Sharif Fakir, 51, of Uttar Baiksha village, Ratan Munshi, 39, of Akkel Mahmud Munshir Kandi village and Milon Sheikh, 35, of Bara Mulna Talukdar Kandi village.
According to police, acting on a tip-off, a team from Jajira Police Station conducted a raid at around 4:50pm in a vacant ground-floor room of an abandoned house belonging to one Rafiq of Naria in the Dakshin Baiksha Namakandi area under Ward No-3 of Jajira municipality.
During the drive, police recovered 22 yaba tablets from the possession of the four suspects and arrested them on the spot.
Jajira Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Saleh Ahmad said police would continue such drives to keep society free from drugs.
The recovered yaba tablets were seized following legal procedures, police said.
A case has been filed with Jajira Police Station under sections 36(1), Schedule 10(a), and 41 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
After completing the necessary legal formalities, the accused were produced before a court, police added.
