The High Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the legality of a government notification banning all activities of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations.
A High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan passed the order on Sunday.
Lawyers present in court said the petition was dismissed as it was not properly brought before the court, or “not in form”.
The writ was filed on 7 September by Md Al Amin, a resident of Munshiganj. Advocate Yunus Ali represented the petitioner.
The petition sought a rule asking why the government notification issued on 12 May 2025 should not be declared to have been issued without lawful authority.
It also sought a stay on the implementation of the 12 May notification until disposal of the rule.
The notification states that all activities of the Awami League and its affiliated, associate and fraternal organisations have been banned until the completion of trials against their leaders and activists before the International Crimes Tribunal.
The ban covers publications, campaigning through the media, online platforms and social media, as well as rallies, meetings, gatherings, conferences and other activities of any kind, according to the notification.
